Glossary of terms
The Business Incubator is an environment (a small building or area) for start-up companies, which can benefit from favourable rents and services provided by the Incubator. The Incubator helps to create a firm foundation for companies whose main business is the development of new products, technologies or services, and introducing them to the market. This is especially usefull for a companies that have a good idea but lack of the funds for its implementation. The Incubator helps to create best possible conditions for young innovative companies so that they can transform their ideas into reality and offer them on the market within a reasonable time frame. Afterwards these started-up companies have no problems finding a private investor. The costs of rental and related services are funded through state programs to support small and medium-sized businesses.
An incubated company is a company located in the Business Incubator which meets the entry requirement and thus is eligible for subsidized rent and services.
Subsidized rent is financially favourable rent below the normal price for the region.
Innovative companies come to the market with new products and modern production methods.
A start-up company is a newly created small or medium-sized company focused on the use of modern technology.
Promotion and networking is represented by exhibition and personal contacts. Promotion means spreading information about a product, service or trade mark, in order to increase sales. Networking means the right people and using these contacts to assist in the achievement of personal and corporate goals.
Monitoring is mapping, exploration and observation. Most often it is used in relation to subsidies or to the competition.
Technology transfer is the process of implementing the results of the scientific research into a company´s practical applications.
Nanotechnology is a technical field which deals with the creation and use of technology on a nanometer-scale. Particles the size of several nanometers can have completely different properties than those of larger particles.
Catalog of equipment and services is a list of equipment and professional services of Palacký University departments which are interested in co-operation with companies.
Grace period provides the opportunity to register for the protection of an invention, even after it has been published. This period is usually 6-12 months and is part of the patent system in the USA and Japan. In European countries the management of the patent always requires absolute novelty, ie. the inventor himself may prevent the acquistion of a patent on his invention by publishing it.
